The 2012 A to Z Challenge Reflections Post

The April 2012 Blogging from A to Z Challenge was a fun way to get my new blog off and running. It also inspired me to organize my own blog hop - I Love Horror/Paranormal Novellas Blog Hop to be held August 6 - 10, 2012. There are a few things I've learned about a blog hop that people new to hops should consider.

Blog every day of a challenge

When I was participating in A to Z, I made sure to blog every day, even if I wasn't going to be around. On days when I was out of town or when I just couldn't blog, I simply wrote a short post indicating that I was out of town or otherwise unable to blog. I know that when I visited A to Z blogs and the blogger was not up to date with the letters, I generally moved on to the next blog.

Set your posts for 12 a.m.

I never blogged on the day of. What I did do is make use of scheduled blogging. (I typically wrote my posts the day before they were set to appear.) It made things easier. I also made sure to schedule my posts to appear at 12 a.m. This way you catch all the readers who are early birds.

Leave comments

For every blog that I visited, I left a comment. Comments show that you've stopped by, and bloggers like to know that you stopped by.

Comment on the blogs of people who visited you

If a person visits my blog, I visit their blog. I believe that's the polite thing to do. Along the way, I was introduced to some blogs that I have continued to visit.

Don't worry about visiting every blog when a hop has over a thousand blogs

The A to Z Challenge encouraged writers to visit every blog. However, there were over 1,000 blogs to see, and that's a lot of pressure. I visited as many as I could without going crazy, and that wasn't even half of them. But I'm okay with that.

Love zombies? Love vampires? Then you'll really love Zxxtergins! My horror/paranormal novella Litria - The M Series: Book One is on sale now!

Note: If you don't own a Kindle, download the Free Kindle App to read eBooks on your Android phone or tablet, iPad, iPhone, PC, Mac, Blackberry, or Windows Phone 7.

(Fellow monster lovers, pretty please, leave a one or two sentence review at Amazon or Goodreads! Reviews help authors. Thanks much!)

  1. close to 2000 blogs is a lot! I was happy hitting 20 a day :)

    1. @Baygirl32 - I got nowhere near 20 a day - too busy with my other writing and reading.

  2. I think I probably did about 700 and I consider that a lot being that I didn't pre-write any of my posts; well maybe the first three.

I didn't comment on a lot of them although I did read through each and every page i clicked on. I pretty much stuck to a group of blogs that i liked and then branched out every day in search for more cool ones.

Yours was one of my first and one of my favorites, pretty much a daily visit throughout the challenge! Enjoyed it Jolie!

    1. Hey Jen,

I've loved getting to know you! Thanks so much!

  3. Congrats on finishing the challenge!

My major peeve was this lady commented on every single post of all 3 of my blogs and I have no idea who she is. Never found a profile or anything. Just "Yvonne"! Even if I didn't include the link back to my blog in the comment, I would at least leave the name of it!

  4. Congratulation on finishing the challenge. I didn't visit all blogs during the challenge but, cross my heart, I'm visiting every single one with reflections post!

    Evalina, This and that...

    1. It's much more manageable with the reflection posts!

  5. I'm still trying to visit back all the bloggers who visited me. Don't know if I'll ever finish the list, but finishing the Reflections list will be a good start. Thanks for blogging along with us in April.

    1. I made sure to visit the blogs on the same day that they visited me. Otherwise, it's too hard to keep up with.

  6. Just as Lee I plan to do the Reflection list first, as it seems that most of the active bloggers posted something! I'm getting a lot of return comments - which just goes to show how much effort needs to be put in, to get something back :) I'm happy, I like it!
Congratulations on surviving the Challenge! :)

    1. It's a great way to get a new blog started. My ultimate goal, however, is to find readers who enjoy horror and paranormal.

  7. Congrats on making it through and thanks for visiting. Now that the dust has begun to settle I am catching on on some great blogs and this is one.

    1. Thanks so much. Off to read your blog now!

  9. congratulations to you on your new blog and completing the A to Z Challenge!
