P is for Paranormal/Horror Novellas Blog Hop

Precious Monster's
I Love Horror/Paranormal Novellas Blog Hop
August 6 - 10, 2012

Is the novella the "ugly duckling" of the literary world or is it finally gaining some respect? In any case, the novella has crashed the party, and it shows no signs of leaving.

What's a novella? Melville's definition cuts to the chase - "Too short to be a novel, too long to be a short story..." Need further information?  SFWA says a novella is "at least 17,500 words but less than 40,000 words." Novellas are those perfect little reads that you can enjoy on your Kindle or Nook.

What is horror/paranormal? The American Heritage Dictionary describes horror as "a genre of fiction or other artistic work evoking suspense and horror, especially through the depiction of gruesome or supernatural elements." They describe paranormal as "beyond the range of normal experience or scientific explanation." A horror/paranormal novella may include vampires, werewolves, ghosts, demons, Zxxtergins, and more.  But if the categories bug and confuse you as much as they bug and confuse me, just call it speculative fiction and be done with it.

Since I'm proud of my first novella, Litria, I want to spread horror/paranormal novella love around by providing other authors and readers the chance to blog about more horror/paranormal novellas.

The I Love Horror/Paranormal Novellas Blog Hop is open to authors AND readers of horror/paranormal novellas.

Congratulations on the novella, and for your efforts to rescue its (undeserved) poor reputation!

@Kern - I think novella writers will soon be laughing all the way to the bank eventually. With the rise of Kindles and Nooks, and increasingly busy lives, more and more people are looking for quick reads.
